This summer, winners of the Richard Tucker Study and Career grants take to the festival stages. Tenor Joshua Guerrero and soprano Rachel Willis-Sorenson are featured at the Glyndebourne Festival, Guerrero as Pinkerton in Madama Butterfly, and Willis-Sorenson as Marschallin in Der Rosenkavalier, opening May 19 and May 20, respectively.
In June, Andrew Stenson and Jennifer Johnson Cano join Opera Theatre of St Louis for productions of Danny Chen’s An American Soldier, and Orpheo and Euridice. Tucker Award-winners Nadine Sierra and Lawrence Brownlee share the Paris Opera stage in Don Pasquale, opening June 6. In California, Jamie Barton, Brandon Jovanovich, Brian Mulligan and Julie Adams perform in San Francisco Opera’s production of The Ring, opening on June 12. Matthew Polenzani can be seen performing in La bohème at the Royal Opera House, which will be presented in free outdoor screenings across the UK on June 26.
In July, Ryan McKinney and Benn Bliss can be seen in Santa Fe Opera’s Dr. Atomic, and also at Santa Fe Opera, Jack Swanson, Scott Connor, and Patrick Carfizzi feature in Rossini’s L’Italiana in Algeri. At Wolf Trap Opera, Alex McKissick and Vanessa Vasquez sing the title roles in Romeo et Juliet, alongside \ Taylor Raven as Nurse, and Megan Samarin sings Idomante in Idomeneo.
Celebrating Leonard Bernstein at Tanglewood, Nadine Sierra and Lawrence Brownlee sing with the Boston Symphony Orchestra in the “Bernstein Songfest” on August 4. August 8 sees Brandon Jovanovich as Hermann in Tchaikovsky’s Pique Dame at the Salzburg Festival.
